Ideas for Mini Rooms

I get a lot of questions about how to make room boxes or small structures to use for doll houses. I have a tutorial on HTM a basic 4-room house using foam boards, but I have a few other ideas as well...

First, decide if you want just one room or multiple rooms?
Second, consider building a doll house miniature, kits start at $29.99.
Third, what kind of structure will it be? (House? Bakery?  Or just a bedroom?)
Lastly, how many dolls will live (be stored) inside?

If you simply want a one room structure that can be divided into two smaller rooms (kitchen and living room or bedroom and bathroom) you can make these out of cardboard, foam board or even use a bookcase shelf.

For larger structures and for an entire residence, a doll house miniatures kit or pre-made doll house would work best. Keep in mind YOU MUST HAVE ROOM TO STORE IT!

Loving Family doll houses are sold at Toys R Us and come completely built. They fold closed and they have rooms of furniture available priced $12.99 - $18.99.

If you're not that ambitious (like me) and the idea of building a doll house intimidates you, the Loving Family homes are perfect. I really like these homes, there are many sizes available.

Pardon the pun, but think out of the box. You can make a home for your mini dolls using a boot box, photo storage box or a crate and store it on top of your dresser.
