Finally, I found inspiration and motivation to do the necessary work on the exterior of the main house. This falling down, severely water damaged doll house looked like THIS when I bought it.
I removed all of the buckling siding and began replacing it.
A coat of Kilz, followed by several coats of "Buttercream" yellow interior semi-gloss paint.
I had to make minor repairs to the fragile trim, the wood on this house was EXTREMELY DRY.
The trim color is "super mint".
There is supposed to be a balcony on the second floor, but this 1979 kit is no longer in circulation. I have had to make adjustments along the way.
The side of the porch was bent and bowing.....I added vinyl brick to help stabilize it.
It took 900 (give or take a few) shingles to cover the entire roof!
I still need a front door and repair the porch railings. I would like to add a flower box to the front window too.
You look like you're making great progress on this little house, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI bought one just like it for 15.00 at a yard sale. It was in decent shape but had broken shingles which my husband replaced with ones he made. I have started painting the outside, but am thinking I will change the roof color. The doors were there with hinges and knobs. The windows had been painted dark brown so I tore off the trim and too the windows out to paint white and will replace trim. You did a good job with yours. So far I have had fun with it. Thanks for posting the pictures.
ReplyDeletePlease email photos of your house! Would love to see it.
DeleteI saw on the web that it is a Franklin, #124, by Artply. It is rare and hard to find. It originally sold for $55.00 and came with a fireplace, which I did not get, but I can buy on line.

DeleteI just got lucky and picked one up at a Restore for $32.50. I am so excited to get started on it. It has some damage some pieces missing but looking forward to making it in to a pub. Looks like it has copper tape in place so have to look in to how I do that.
